Are you a DJ looking for a creative space to develop your sound, experiment with ideas, and connect with something bigger?
The Wild Ones want to feel like home for DJs in Kampala, and we’re improving our sound, and lighting, and trying to create a “plug and play” venue to make the place perfect for DJs to set up and perform here, and to put on the best possible shows – and we are looking for DJs to come and help shape this vision with us. We’re also offering residencies…
The Wild Ones is inviting DJs to apply for two-week studio residencies — a unique opportunity to use our Creative Studio by day, and showcase what you’ve been working on at the end of your stay.
Whether you’re just starting out or already established, this is your chance to focus on your craft and become part of a growing creative culture in Kampala at The Wild Ones.
What is the DJ Residency?
Here’s how it works:
- Access to The Wild Ones Creative Studio for two weeks (mostly daytime use)
- Use the space however you like: practise, record, write, experiment or collaborate
- At the end, you’ll have the chance to showcase your work — either in the bar or jungle event space
- Some DJs will be invited to continue with us — becoming official members of The Wild Ones
This residency is your entry point — a space to work, grow, and explore what’s next.
Why are we doing this?
The Wild Ones is more than just a venue. It’s a creative ecosystem, where our bar and studio work hand in hand — two parts of the same heartbeat.
The bar brings the energy, the crowd, the cultural spark.
The studio is where creativity is nurtured, talent is developed, and new ideas are born.
By hosting DJs in the studio, we build a rhythm:
- Studio by day — a time for focus and experimentation
- Bar by night — a place to test, perform and connect with an audience
This also helps shape the weekly vibe of The Wild Ones — giving DJs the chance to be part of early evening sessions and pre-set culture before the main acts kick off after 9PM.
What Happens After the Residency?
A two-week residency is just the beginning.
DJs who make the most of it may be invited to become Wild Ones Members, gaining access to a range of future opportunities and benefits – including event access & discounts in the bar and restaurant…
We’re also currently looking for regular DJs — or “house DJs” — to play with us more consistently. Taking part in a residency is a fantastic way to get to know us, show us your energy, and explore what an ongoing role might look like.
If you don’t want to officially apply for a residency, there’s also a more fluid way to connect:
Every Saturday from 6pm, we host a weekly session called Celebration of Electronic Music — an open evening for DJs, selectors, producers, and electronic music lovers to:
- Meet each other
- Share knowledge and techniques
- Watch music-related films or documentaries
- Discuss, learn, and maybe even jam
It’s informal, creative, and often collaborative. We bring out the house decks when the vibe feels right, and see what emerges. Then, around 9pm, the main sets kick off — and the dancefloor takes over.
If you’re curious about The Wild Ones or thinking of getting involved, pop by on a Saturday and say hello. You don’t have to apply to us to hang out!
The Bigger Picture: The Wild Ones DJ Collective
Beyond the residency, we’ve recently launched The Wild Ones DJ Collective — a long-term development platform for DJs who want to grow as artists and creative professionals.
This isn’t just a concept — it’s a structured journey. We’ve applied for grant funding to expand it into a full programme that supports DJs at every level to develop not just their mixing skills, but their understanding of the full creative process behind great performance and cultural impact.
That includes:
- DJing and sound design
- Lighting and staging
- Personal branding and image development
- Marketing, social media and content creation
- Collaboration with stylists, filmmakers, photographers and other artists
The Collective is our launchpad for the next generation of DJs — a place where emerging and mid-career talent can build confidence, develop their identity, and connect with real opportunities in Kampala and beyond.
We believe in creative cross-pollination. DJs at The Wild Ones don’t just play sets — they grow alongside fashion designers, visual artists, producers, photographers, dancers, and filmmakers. The energy of one discipline fuels the next. That’s what makes The Wild Ones culture so different — and so powerful.
